Stolen Vehicle Engineering Consultants
Another client asked Bill to visit a recovery yard and inspect a 2007 Vauxhall Astra, recovered after being siezed by the police having been driven by "somebody known to them" who claimed he had recently bought the vehicle for a ridiculously low sum of money. The registered keeper had reported the vehicle stolen by means of key theft during a dwelling burglary, however there was no evidence of a break-in to his property - something didn't add up. Having previously inspected the key found in the car when stopped by the police, and the key held by the PH Bill was happy that they were both original to the vehicle. The tool marks on the keys were in keeping with factory made keys and the key manufacture dates corresponded with the appropriate lead time to the vehicle production date. The key number also matched that on file by Vauxhall Motors UK. No other keys were known to the vehicle when checked diagnostically, ruling out another third party with any more keys being involved. Bill's client could only conclude that the PH had in fact sold the vehicle to the "known individual" and had retained an original key to support his made-up story about being burgled and losing his spare car key.
2007 Astra
Ignition lock and barrel intact, and steering lock
functions to specification.
Diagnostic tester shows that this Astra only had 2 keys programmed (one in posession of the PH and the other his accomplice).
Keys Reunited. Flip key (top) and fixed key (bottom) together again.

"Woooooow wo woooooaaaah, my Passat's on fire..."
One "flaming" fibber of a PH submitted a claim for the loss of his 2001 Passat. He claims it was stolen, only to be found abandoned with minor interior fire damage. There were no signs of a break in.. because the PH drove the car to the burn locus himself, set fire to the interior, shut and locked the doors with his key and then "hot footed" it away. The fire quickly went out due to a lack of oxygen due to the doors and windows being shut. He should have spotted the CCTV camera... it spotted him!!
