Stolen Vehicle Engineering Consultants
A pub drinker reported his 53 registration Peugeot 206 stolen from the carpark of his local pub. The vehicle was later recovered with interior fire damage, however, the arsonist ought to have stuck to something he was good at i.e. drinking pints, as the vehicle had been left with all windows and doors closed, thus the poorly staged fire soon extinguished as all the oxygen within the passenger compartment was consumed. I inspected the fire damage to the vehicle which was obviously set on the seat deliberately (no electrical wires nearby could have shorted etc.). We also noted extensive body damage to the vehicle which appeared to be longstanding. The PH submitted two keys to the insurer, both of which we inspected as being true to the vehicle. The vehicle showed no signs of tampering with the locks or immobiliser and when interrogated only knew the two keys supplied. The PH's sworn statement that nobody else had access to the keys rules out cloned / copied keys. My interrogation of the immobiliser revealed only 2 transponder keys known and one remote fob - exactly as handed in by the PH. Once again, our report enabled the claim to be repudiated and the PH reported for making a fraudulent claim.
The diagnostic test computer reveals that the immobiliser control unit is functioning properly and that it knows two transponder keys, one of which has remote buttons to operate the central locking. Both keys handed in start the vehicle - there are no other keys - fraudulent claim!

"Woooooow wo woooooaaaah, my Passat's on fire..."
One "flaming" fibber of a PH submitted a claim for the loss of his 2001 Passat. He claims it was stolen, only to be found abandoned with minor interior fire damage. There were no signs of a break in.. because the PH drove the car to the burn locus himself, set fire to the interior, shut and locked the doors with his key and then "hot footed" it away. The fire quickly went out due to a lack of oxygen due to the doors and windows being shut. He should have spotted the CCTV camera... it spotted him!!
