The owner of a 2007 BMW 335i "M Sport" convertible reported his prestigious sports car stolen from a hotel car park in Cardiff after parking it there on a Friday morning. He claims to have noticed the car missing when he returned to where the car was parked on the Sunday evening. I was appointed by his insurance company's loss adjusters to investigate.
I quickly established that one of his keys was indeed used on that Friday morning at 0946 hrs, and the recorded mileage was 12,204 miles. His spare key was used on the Sunday (the day he reported it missing although claims not to have seen it from the Friday) at 1745 hrs with a recorded mileage of 12,343 miles.
This one ended up in Cardiff Crown Court - the PH was being prosecuted for insurance fraud. It was Ambersett's key evidence that in the end caused the PH to change his plea from "not guilty" to "guilty". Turns out he had previously claimed for another vehicle that went missing in suspicious circumstances and was found burnt out...

"Woooooow wo woooooaaaah, my Passat's on fire..."

One "flaming" fibber of a PH submitted a claim for the loss of his 2001 Passat. He claims it was stolen, only to be found abandoned with minor interior fire damage. There were no signs of a break in.. because the PH drove the car to the burn locus himself, set fire to the interior, shut and locked the doors with his key and then "hot footed" it away. The fire quickly went out due to a lack of oxygen due to the doors and windows being shut. He should have spotted the CCTV camera... it spotted him!!
