Stolen Vehicle Engineering Consultants
A policy holder reported his Ford Escort stolen after finding it missing following a night out at the pub. The police later recovered the vehicle following its involvement in a most unfortunate road traffic collision resulting in the death of a horse. TCF Motor, a valued customer of Ambersett, had used cognitive questioning techniques and ascertained high risk of a fraudulent claim. The keys were checked using Ambersett's key reading machine and following an engineering inspection of the vehicle, it was apparent that the only damage to the vehicle was accident related - i.e. no theft related damage to the locks, ignition or vehicle immobiliser - i.e. the vehicle had to have been driven away with a key.
Following a secondary telephone interview with the PH, when presented with the information ascertained from the inspection of the keys and the vehicle, the PH was given the option of withdrawing his claim thus stopping the investigation with immediate effect. The PH took this option, the claim was withdrawn and the insurance company saved thousands of pounds.
This claim was reconstructed for BBC 2's Crisis Claims & Cons programme, aired on Thursday November 12th 2009.

"Woooooow wo woooooaaaah, my Passat's on fire..."
One "flaming" fibber of a PH submitted a claim for the loss of his 2001 Passat. He claims it was stolen, only to be found abandoned with minor interior fire damage. There were no signs of a break in.. because the PH drove the car to the burn locus himself, set fire to the interior, shut and locked the doors with his key and then "hot footed" it away. The fire quickly went out due to a lack of oxygen due to the doors and windows being shut. He should have spotted the CCTV camera... it spotted him!!
