TCF Motor have permitted me to publish details of an absolute howler of an enquiry regarding a 2001 VW Passat with interior fire damage. The PH reported his vehicle as stolen to commence the claims process as is normal practise. The PH's vehicle was found abandoned, locked, with no signs of a break in, however with evidence of a poorly staged interior fire.
The vehicles interior had been set alight, however the arsonist neglected to open any windows before closing the doors and locking the car with a key. Subsequently the interior fire self extinguished through lack of oxygen without causing too much damage to the vehicle.
How unfortunate, one might be inclined to think, the poor chap still has a car with a ruined interior and probable damage to the electrical system? In this case the most unfortunate thing for the PH is that he was in fact seen on CCTV parking his vehicle, setting fire to the interior and then locking the doors before walking away. I am meanwhile processing the keys handed in for the vehicle to ascertain their originality and application to the vehicle. This kind of fraud is suspected to be commonplace - just not common in the sight of a CCTV camera!

"Woooooow wo woooooaaaah, my Passat's on fire..."

One "flaming" fibber of a PH submitted a claim for the loss of his 2001 Passat. He claims it was stolen, only to be found abandoned with minor interior fire damage. There were no signs of a break in.. because the PH drove the car to the burn locus himself, set fire to the interior, shut and locked the doors with his key and then "hot footed" it away. The fire quickly went out due to a lack of oxygen due to the doors and windows being shut. He should have spotted the CCTV camera... it spotted him!!
