A 2006 Range Rover Vogue - worth about £50k had been reported as stolen during a burglary at a domestic dwelling whilst the PH was away on holiday. The insurer was on the point of paying out £50k to the PH for his "stolen" Range Rover, however was astute enough to contact me, to check the validity of the claim due to the presence of only one key. The PH had handed in 1 very new looking key (I can easily spot a replacement key from a factory original) saying "this was the only key he had ever had since he bought the car in 2006 , the car and the logbook had been stolen as a result of a burglary whilst I was abroad". Examination of the key and the transponder plus records held by Land Rover showed that it had been produced to an order by the PH one week before the car disappeared. The dealer, through which the key was ordered, had followed Land Rover policy and had taken copies of the owner's driver's licence which had his photograph and had a copy of his signature on the paperwork. This had happened during the time the PH said he was abroad. The car had in fact been sold to an innocent buyer who was eventually stopped by the police who picked up the number plate on their in-car ANPR camera system as stolen. The innocent third party was able to give a very good description of the man who sold him the car who just happened to look exactly like the PH. The new owner's testimony, the filed insurance claim, plus the evidence from the dealership order books and our examination of the keys is sufficient evidence for a water tight fraud prosecution case. My client was so pleased with what was uncovered, they gave Ambersett a percentage of the saving made in not paying out the £50k claim!

"Woooooow wo woooooaaaah, my Passat's on fire..."
One "flaming" fibber of a PH submitted a claim for the loss of his 2001 Passat. He claims it was stolen, only to be found abandoned with minor interior fire damage. There were no signs of a break in.. because the PH drove the car to the burn locus himself, set fire to the interior, shut and locked the doors with his key and then "hot footed" it away. The fire quickly went out due to a lack of oxygen due to the doors and windows being shut. He should have spotted the CCTV camera... it spotted him!!
