Stolen Vehicle Engineering Consultants
The owner of a 2003 Mercedes Benz S 320 CDi claims that his prestigious vehicle was stolen in broad daylight whilst he ate in a nearby cafe. When interviewed by his insurers, he claims to have purchased the vehicle in 2005 with only one key, and produced this key upon reporting the loss of the vehicle as the one and only key he had ever had for this vehicle.
Records within Mercedes Benz UK show that in actual fact, the owner requested a replacement key in 2006 and that recently it had been in a dealership with work needing doing.
The key handed in has been identified as the key supplied to the PH in 2006 hence the key he got at purchase is not accounted for.
So there is a missing key not accounted for, and a vehicle, which is almost impossible to steal without the key (or some high tech 'locksmithing' electronics), missing.
If the vehicle is recovered, we will be able to ascertain the last two keys used to drive the vehicle, allowing fraud charges to be brought against the PH.

The S320 benefits from an electronically coded immobiliser key, an electronic steering column lock and a Thatcham Category 1 alarm system. Replacement keys can only be obtained via franchised dealerships whom request them, once proof of ownership is satisfied, from the factory in Germany. Such records are retained and Ambersett is able to verify such transactions. Should this vehicle ever turn up mysteriously, I can also diagnostically check the last two keys used to drive it...

"Woooooow wo woooooaaaah, my Passat's on fire..."
One "flaming" fibber of a PH submitted a claim for the loss of his 2001 Passat. He claims it was stolen, only to be found abandoned with minor interior fire damage. There were no signs of a break in.. because the PH drove the car to the burn locus himself, set fire to the interior, shut and locked the doors with his key and then "hot footed" it away. The fire quickly went out due to a lack of oxygen due to the doors and windows being shut. He should have spotted the CCTV camera... it spotted him!!
