Another typical suspicious claim. A policy holder claimed that their Citroen C3 had been stolen somehow without a key. It is said that without a true key, a complete suite of surrogate parts from a similar spec vehicle or locksmithing tools to decode the locks, cut a new key and program it to the car, short of towing or lifting the vehicle away it cannot be stolen.
The PH could only produce one key of the two originally supplied and claimed that one had been lost indoors.
Having visited the vehicle in storage and inspected it from bumper to bumper, there is absolutely NO theft related damage. The only damage noted is the signs of a slight to moderate impact on the nearside front (as pictured -->).
Photographs were taken to show the lack of damage to the steering lock and ingition proving that without a true key or mechanically matching pattern key, the vehicle could not have been steered.
A diagnostic check was also undertaken to ascertain if the electronics of the immobiliser / engine ECU had been swapped with surrogates - the original VIN of the vehicle was showing as programmed into the electronics, the vehicle only knew 2 keys and the engine started with the one key handed in by the PH.
Conclusion: Original parts still fitted to the vehicle hence no additional keys added by locksmithing means and no theft by surrogate system replacement hence vehicle movement can only have been by true key (or a clone thereof) - whichever the case the so called "thief" would have needed the owners key.

2001 Passat arson
"Woooooow wo woooooaaaah, my Passat's on fire..."

One "flaming" fibber of a PH submitted a claim for the loss of his 2001 Passat. He claims it was stolen, only to be found abandoned with minor interior fire damage. There were no signs of a break in.. because the PH drove the car to the burn locus himself, set fire to the interior, shut and locked the doors with his key and then "hot footed" it away. The fire quickly went out due to a lack of oxygen due to the doors and windows being shut. He should have spotted the CCTV camera... it spotted him!!
